What are essential oils?

Essential oils are volatile liquids that come from plants. Though we cannot see them with our naked eye, essential oils can come from many parts of the plant including their seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruit, and more! When properly distilled for purity and therapeutic value, an essential oil is highly concentrated and embodies the regenerating, protective, and immune-strengthening properties of plants. And while some people think that essential oils are a new age fad, they have actually been used historically for food preparation, beauty treatments, and health-care practices, even dating back to Egyptians as early as 1553 BC.
